Proper Place Setting – Formal
Formal place settings suggest that a memorable experience is almost guaranteed. This time we organize utensils about 8 inches from the edge of the table. Align each utensil along a common base or midpoint. Guests should use the outermost utensils first. Think soup spoons, or salad forks, with dinner forks and knives closer in. Knife blades turned in towards the plate. Place glasses about an inch above the knives, and order according to use: white wine, red wine, dessert wine, and water tumbler.
